Mothering as a Work of Art: A Black Mama Anthology Edited by Lyneia Richardson, PhD

Mothering as a Work of Art

Mothering as a Work of Art: A Black Mama Anthology is more than just a collection of stories; it is a testament to the strength and diversity of Black motherhood. Within its pages, readers will find narratives that explore the joys, challenges, and triumphs of pregnancy, childbirth, loss, and everything in between.

This anthology is a labor of love born from Dr. Lyneia Richardson's own journey towards healing following a traumatic childbirth experience. This anthology of Black mamas seeks to give voice to the diverse and often overlooked experiences of Black mothers. So many times, narratives about Black mothers have been steeped in negative stereotypes and based on what others believe about them. This book provides a sacred space for Black mamas to share their personal narratives, celebrating the beauty, resilience, and complexities of Black motherhood. It is a celebration of those shared experiences and a catalyst for building community and fostering healing through the power of storytelling. This book can also help partners, family members, and other community members better understand the experiences of the mothers in their lives from birth trauma and beyond.
